The heat is quickly approaching!

Another month has flown by.  I usually say this about the entire year as well, but at the beginning of the month it seems like it'll go so slow, but by the last day of the month it's like "where did the month go?"  We've continued to stay busy but towards the end of May it's been nice to have a little bit of down time instead of it being go, go, go constantly.

One of the most exciting things about May was that our summer bowling league started up again!  YAY!!  We look forward to this all year long and like to call it the McFarland/Foegal Sunday Funday as our teammates are two of our closest friends, Penny and Dave.  When Sunday nights roll around we are in it to win it!  Also, it was of course Mother's Day and it was such a wonderful, relaxing day.  Scott's parents and grandparents, as well as my mom, came over to our house for brunch and it was delicious.  We also watched golf all day which was pretty fun too.  My present from Scott and the girls was amazing!  Scott made it himself and it is now hanging on our kitchen wall.

Now for the updates on the girls.

Leila had her 6 month check up and she is a healthy girl and all looked good!  She weighed in at 14 lbs 12 oz (22%) and 26 1/2 inches (71%).  In comparison to Keira at the same age, Leila is 1 pound heavier but also 3/4 inches taller.  We've just got some petite ladies 'cause they can both eat like champs!

Leila also has a few other milestones to mention.  She is now crawling and she just started pushing herself to a seated position from her stomach.  In fact, she scared the crap out of me last night as I woke up and heard her and when I looked at the monitor she was sitting up with her hands on the edge of her crib trying to pull herself up.  I don't think I've ever jumped out of bed that fast in my life.  Needless to say, Scott lowered the crib before bed tonight.  Speaking of sleeping, She is also pretty much sleeping from 6:30P to about 6:00A.  we've been blessed with good sleepers though there are definite differences we've noticed in their sleep patterns as well.

Keira is still making us laugh, but she's also been having several terrible two's moments the last few days, which has us trying to not rip our hair out.  It's so frustrating and sad when she won't listen and just cries and cries.  Of course it's just a phase and I try to just remember in those moments how adorable she normally is and some of the funny things she does or says.  So far it's worked.  Let's see how long that lasts.

Ever since Keira was 6 months old she only used her pacifier while she slept, so we continually put off completely taking it away with various excused like she only uses it at night, it falls out of her mouth during the night anyway, we're traveling soon so let's not yet, and more.  Well, one night the inevitable happened and we could not find her 'paci.'  Poor thing was devastated.  And by devastated I mean crying and screaming so loud during her bath that I thought Leila was going to wake up.  We don't actually have any other pacis in the house so we couldn't do anything about it after an exhaustive search turned up empty handed.  She finally calmed down while she was getting her pajamas on and during her nighttime books.  As we laid her down she asked for her paci a few times, but as we walked out of the room she was silent.  Ahhh!!!  I figured she'd wake up in the middle of the night and want it for comfort, but she is quite the champion sleeper and we were so lucky.  She did ask for it the next two nights but there was no crying.  After that nothing.  Of course the inevitable happened and about a week later she found it.  She had put it in Leila's nightstand.  What?!?!  It's been amazing and it was so easy and now she found it?  Well, Scott told her she was a big girl and only babies use pacis and that was that.  Isn't it supposed to be more difficult than that?  We know that we were lucky.  For Leila, we will likely take it away right around a year as she doesn't care for it much anyway and I'd rather avoid the drama.

Another funny story involves the bathroom.  We aren't proactively potty training, but she does like to use the potty at times and we figure after our Los Angeles trip maybe we'll just do it. She also LOVES wearing big girl pants.  In fact she states "I no like diapers." So one day I was upstairs feeding Leila and my mom was downstairs with Keira.  Keira said she wanted to go pee and so my mom took her in and she did her thing.  After she flushed the toilet she still had no pants on and started playing with my mom by shutting the bathroom door and opening it, and then laughing so loud.  One time she opened it and had a shocked look on her face and said, "nana poop...ground" and pointed to the ground.  There was a tiny piece of poop and she was absolutely shocked this happened.  My mom realized what happened and then cleaned it up and put her back on the toilet, but the funniest part was Keira re-telling the story.  When I came down she immediately had to tell me that "I poop. Ground. Nana clean it."  It was hilarious (maybe a you had to be there moment, but I'm kind of laughing while typing this).  To this day, she still tells the story.  Girl has a steel trap for a mind.

Keira has also started calling people on her phone and one time I heard her saying "hi Tina" over and over.  I asked her who she was talking to and she said Tina. Of course she must have heard my name before and put two and two together because when we ask who Tina is she points to me or says mommy.   I finally got a video of her chatting on her phone. This time she started to talk to Tina but then decided to chat with Nana.

Keira loves her little sister and sometimes even calls her "my baby." She is also loving that Leila is more interactive and playing with her, but then that also means stolen toys and Leila gets angry when Keira takes a toy away from her.  Oh I can just envision the next decade or two of sisterly love and fighting.

Until June ...as the weather gets hotter and I become somewhat of a hermit inside our home as I hate to venture out in the heat unless I truly have to.

Another crazy month!

Another crazy busy month is in the books.  As much fun as we had throughout the month, it will be nice to be able to relax a little bit on some weekends versus being on the go all the time.

Some highlights of the month included celebrating my birthday and several other of Keira's friends birthdays.  Also I traveled to Dallas for a couple days for work, which left Scott on his own however my mom did coordinate her work schedule so she could help him out with bedtimes and all.  One of the best parts of the month was when my girls from CA, Sounia and Kim, came into town to hang out.  We had a blast and it was hard to see them leave, but we will see them again soon when we head to LA for our annual 4th of July trip.

Scott and I also participated in Pat's Run (Scott's 2nd time, my first).  I am obviously a lot slower than Scott so of course he was assigned a corral way ahead of mine (corral 4 versus 17).  Any normal husband would volunteer to start in the same corral as their wife, but Scott is a 'serious runner' and didn't want to be bogged down by us slow people. It turns out by the time I started, Scott was actually finishing.  Serves him right to have to wait for me!  And let's be honest, I haven't really run in 2 1/2 years (before getting pregnant with Keira) and that was basically my first big workout since having Leila.  Smart move on my part!  It was a run/walk situation, but I finished strong and got to high five all the Sun Devil Footballers!  Was it worth waking up super early and ultimately injuring myself  it just for that and the inspirational finish?  Still debating that one.  Speaking of getting injured, somehow I messed up my knee and it's been so painful.  I'm icing it, taking advil, and all that good stuff and it's just now starting to feel better (not that that means it feels great as I'm still limping around) so hopefully I'll be 100% soon so I can get back on the workout wagon.

Now to the fun stuff.  The girls!  Oh how they are starting to fight like sisters.  It's pretty funny.  I have a feeling Leila isn't going to tolerate being bossed around.  Keira will take a toy away from her and Leila will yell really loudly at her.  Girl gets angry!  But Keira is such a sweet sister too and will get her paci if she needs it, hand her toys, and just chat with her a bit when needed.  I can already tell they are going to be the best of friends.

She loves to watch Keira and has the best belly laugh going on.  She laughs a lot and can just get the biggest grin on her face.  The best is going to get her in the morning and once she sees you she has a huge smile on her face and sometimes she squeals in delight.  One way Leila differs from Keira is that she always has to put something in her mouth. Keira wasn't real mouthy like that so I find myself really having to keep an eye out what is sitting next to her on the mat when she's playing (i.e. newspaper that Keira has strewn around).

Keira...girl is still cracking us up!  The things that come out of her mouth, or the facial expressions she makes, are just hilarious!  Some of her recent quips include:

• Sings up a storm - we love all songs, but lately she will sing No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed while hitting her head pretty hard.  LOL!
• Loves Candy (just like her mama) - for a while, after Easter, every day she would hold up one finger in front of her face and say "just one." I don't think she understood that only meant one because she would do it again, and again, and again.  It was pretty cute the way she did it.
• Time out - not sure if time out works when your child likes it. Sometimes she will send herself to time out for absolutely no reason and then fake cry while sitting there.
• Super clean - she likes to be clean and things around her tidy (except her books in her room of course).  If the toilet paper rips, spills her milk or it's not completely wipes up, fuzz in the bathtub which she thought was a bug she will say "ew, yucky!" and point at it.
• Does not like flies so we had to teach her "shoo fly" so she won't freak out every time she sees one. Now she will say it automatically.
• Loves to accessorize with bracelets and sunglasses.  When she puts on her sunglasses now she automatically turns to us and says "I pretty." We agree and say "yes, Keira is pretty" to which she replies "yeah." So far I don't think we have a self esteem issue.
• Definitely parrots what we say as I sometimes hear her say to us or the dogs, "Hi sweetheart"

Birthdays, Anniversaries, and a whole lotta fun!

So this month was quite the whirlwind of fun!  We have been so busy every single weekend and it's not stopping anytime soon.  I am looking forward to May when we don't have something every single weekend. I guess the best thing to do is start from the beginning.

At the beginning of March we had a great time with Scott's family and a couple of our friends at a Spring Training game in Surprise.  The Budweiser Clydesdale's made a pit stop and it was the first time I've seen them up close (minus seeing them cross an intersection in downtown Phoenix a year ago).  We were able to get some pictures and what's neat is that Scott has a picture with the Clydesdale's when he was young too.

While sitting in our VIP tent (yeah, that's how we roll) we also saw the entire ASU baseball team that was there for a collegiate tournament after the MLB game.  So of course we asked head coach Tim Esmay if Keira could have a picture with him. Of course Scott had to jump in too since Keira likely wouldn't let Coach Esmay hold her so he's throwing a good pitchfork in there.  I really think Keira was Scott's excuse to get a photo with the coach, but it's cool.  It was fun! Next on the list...Todd Graham (ASU football coach).

Leila is growing like a weed!  She had her 4 month doctor appointment and had gained two pounds in two months.  Official stats are: weight 13.6 lbs (30%), height 25.5" (86%), and head 16" (48%).  She is two pounds heavier than Keira was at this age and 1 inch taller.  A week after her appointment we took a trip back to the doctor's office and got her ears pierced.  She was a champ and of course now she looks even more adorable than before!  She's officially rolling over both ways since she now rolls from back to stomach right before her 4 month birthday (tummy to back was at 9 weeks).  She's also discovered her feet which she LOVES!  She holds onto them every moment she gets and sometimes when she's bored or hungry she'll snack on them.  Keira is loving it since she's a little more interactive and she still enjoys teaching her things like the alphabet or what a dinosaur is or even reading to her.  She goes to bed about 6:30P and is still waking me up once a night (anywhere between 3A & 5A) to eat but I'll take it. I'm sure there are those worse off than me but I cannot wait for that night of uninterrupted sleep.  I even dream about it.  Another first this month are her first solids.  She's now had rice cereal and avocado, both of which she loves.  Girl likes to eat, just like her sister.  Of course she still hates her car seat with a passion (even though we've upgraded to a more comfortable convertible seat) as well which is definitely a good time.  All in all, it's been a good month for Leila.

Scott and I also celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary this month.  Scott celebrated by going snowboarding in Flagstaff with a friend while I stayed at home and worked.  Okay that sounds pretty bad, but I did say it was okay and we celebrated with a fabulous dinner two nights before.  We ate at Amaro Pizzeria & Vino Lounge and it was DELICIOUS!  We also learned they have live music Wednesday thru Sunday nights so we are excited to go there again sometime in the near future.

We've had several birthday parties, in addition to Keira's to attend this month as well.  Keira had a blast visiting with her friends while Leila just took it all in and was being carried around, which is her favorite!  We love our neighborhood and friends here and love celebrating these milestones with them.  It's so fun to see everyone grow over the years.

Speaking of birthdays...someone turned 2!!!

We had her part at The Little Gym which was absolutely fabulous.  The theme was Team USA/Olympics (yes, I know the Olympics were last summer but whatever).  She's been very into gymnastics since I started taking her this past January and I figured it'd be fun for all the kids.  Plus I didn't have to clean my house, buy decorations, set up, clean up again, think of activities, and so on!  It was so stress free and all I had to do was pay for it, buy a cake, order some pizza to be delivered, and provide goody bags for the kids to take home.  It was awesome!  We couldn't really get Keira off the rings though.  Every single time there was free time, I'd turn around and she'd be hanging from those bars.  Too bad they are part of the boys apparatus' and not the girls.

On Keira's actual birthday both Scott and I took off work to take her to the Phoenix Zoo.  We had such a blast and my longtime friend (who kindly pointed out that it's been 20 years and made me feel super old) and her kids met us there.  She loved the Komodo Dragon but the biggest attraction and most fun at the zoo was the Photo Booth.  You heard right, the photo booth.  Keira wanted to 'hide' in there so my friend's girls joined her and we spent a good 10 minutes playing.

Easter was eventful and fun at our house.  The weekend prior we had our community Easter egg hunt, which was fun and Keira thoroughly enjoyed picking up the eggs.  It also marked her first face painting - a unicorn - which she sat super still for.  It was impressive and she loved pointing at it and talking about it.

Easter weekend our friends came over with their daughter for dinner and egg dying.  It was a blast and the girls chose to use their hands instead of the tool provided to drop in and pull the egg out (which truly is difficult even for an adult to use).  It was definitely more efficient but it was a bear to get it all off afterwards.  Keira's eggs turned out beautiful and she topped them off with some Sesame Street stickers.

On Easter we drove down to Casa Grande to have brunch with Scott's parents, his grandparents, and his sister's family.  It was a fabulous time as always and they even set up an egg hunt which was really fun.  Keira loved finding all the eggs around the yard and Leila was hanging out with her Nani (Nancy) watching all the fun.  It's always great to have family time and it's always a blast for the cousins to hang out.  I will say this...Keira is definitely the loudest of them all.  We do not have a volume problem in this household!

Keira gets more fun by the day.  Of course she has her random tantrums and meltdowns but those are a rarity and not the norm.  Since she turned 2 she moved up a room at "school" (*sniff, *sniff) and is such a big girl.  She's becoming so independent and is always saying "Keira do it" or "I do it."  She also had her two year doctor visit and she passed with flying colors.  Official stats are: weight 23 lbs (20%), height 33" (28%), and head 18.75" (54%).  Of course there are many funny scenarios that played out and statements made by Keira and I can't share them all but some are below.
   
Sayings:

• "Oh goodness"
• "Here honey" - when handing us something or chatting to her 'baby'
• "No table" - telling herself to not climb on the coffee table
• "Yeah baby" - totally don't know where this came from but it's hilarious

Scenarios:

• She will sit in her chair and 'breastfeed' her baby while I feed Leila.  I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, but what's even funnier about it is that she feeds her baby out of her belly button.  She also has to use a blanket to cover her baby while feeding her.  She's such a good mommy.
• After a bath she was sitting on the bathroom counter while Scott was brushing her teeth and she started to pinch her nipples yelling "milk."  We aren't sure if she was milking herself or asking for more milk since hers was just poured in the sink.  We were laughing pretty hard.
• She makes a mean coffee with her play kitchen.  We are wired on a daily basis due to multiple cups of coffee.  We also drink out of her salt and pepper shakers but usually we get a real cup while she takes either the salt or pepper.  She's a gracious host.
• While sitting on the potty before getting in her bath she looked over at the tub and saw Barbie floating in the water.  She said "Oh Barbie, I help you." She promptly had to wipe and get off to help Barbie.
• When we got to gymnastics early one day we walked into the waiting area and she saw some little boys playing in the play room.  She was so focused on them that she kept walking and ran into the glass door. No joke that I almost fell off my chair laughing.  I still laugh when I think about it.  Of course I made sure she was okay first and she had a good chuckle too, but it was awesome!!
• Scott usually gets Keira out of bed and dressed in the morning as I am usually downstairs with Leila and lately some mornings she's been wanting me.  The first time this happened he had her reading for a few minutes and said he'd get me when he was done emptying out both girls humidifiers.  He assumed she'd forget about wanting me, but the minute he came back in the room she pointed to the door and said "get her."  
• She's still a bit bossy and is constantly telling her dogs what to do, as well as us, but for the most part she's pretty polite about it and says "please."  A prime example is the video below which makes me laugh every time I see it because not only is she bossing Koa around, but she has to blow bubbles in between yelling at him.

Calm before the storm

So far so good on my New Years Resolution!  I am actually going to update everyone on February's happenings. Granted we are really only one or two months in but so far so good!

February is basically the calm before the storm as March and April are CRAZY months with activities scheduled every weekend, sometimes back to back on a day, and sometimes both days.  Don't ask me when I'll be able to laundry, go to the grocery store, clean and what not but it'll be figured out soon enough.

I'm sure there will be some things we did in February that I've forgotten about but for the most part it was pretty low key.  One constant activity is Keira's gymnastics class that we enrolled her in this past January.  She absolutely LOVES it and I can already see improvement in her strength and ability to do certain things.  We always practice our bear crawl and donkey kicks at home and Keira absolutely loves the beam and long trampoline.  She's also a fan of the bars where she does her baskets.  Girl is pretty darn strong and after about 8 classes can now hang on and pull her toes all the way up to the bar and hang for 5 seconds without any assistance.  I always have my hand there just in case but she is seriously strong.  She also tries to throw in a pull up here and there when we do different moves, but she still needs assistance on those.  I've also seen her try doing baskets at our playground (not on a bar) as well as on our coffee table and her new kitchen tower.  Girl loves her baskets.  As much as I love hanging out with my girl on Saturday mornings at gymnastics I look forward to the day she can do her own class, but then it'll almost be time for Leila so then it starts again. 

We also had our annual SuperBowl party which was fun as usual.  We love having our friends over to party and watch the big game.  The more the merrier is our theory.  There was lots of good food, good drinks, and good friends to hang out with.  Also, there were lots of kids to play and entertain each other.  Also, I have to give a shout out to Beyonce's halftime show because she pretty much rocked it! 

Another one of my New Years resolutions is to do something active at least 5 times a week.  It's been a slow start, but one activity I've found that definitely takes up one of those days is Pure Barre.  It is amazing!!  I absolutely hate working out but I look forward to this workout each week.  Of course there are multiple offerings throughout the week but most don't really work for me at this time so I can really only commit regularly to Sundays.  If you have one near you I recommend checking it out.  It is very low impact and isolated moves but man do you get your heart rate up, body burning, and you feel good sore the next day like you've worked all the right spots.

Now for the fun stuff, which is talking about the girls. 

 3 months (2/8/13)

Leila is almost 4 months old now!  Wow, where does time go?  She's getting so active and has been rolling over from front to back for about a month now.  She's also very smiley like Keira was but she also has a bit of a temper when things don't go her way.  It's like 0 to 60 in a millisecond.  She also hates the carseat.  Neither of our girls have liked to carseat which kind of sucks because when you are going somewhere with a screaming baby in the back it's not pleasant. Granted, she's gotten a bit better so she doesn't cry every time she's in it but she has her moments.  None of which are pleasant.  Also, she is sleeping longer which is great.  We've found her 'sweet spot' of when she likes to go to bed and that's between 6P and 7P depending on when she woke up from her last nap.  She proceeds to sleep until anywhere between 3A & 5A and then after I feed her she goes right back down to anywhere between 6A & 7A.  She does sometimes wake in the middle of the night and need her pacifier put back in but for the most part we are getting more sleep which is glorious!  However, those nights when I have to get up multiple times to put in her pacifier do take a toll. I can't wait until she can find the paci on her own and put it in though she's still not a big fan of it anyway. Scott really needs to do some double paci training right now.  Leila also loves being in her jumperoo now and of course loves mat time, tummy time, and has been enjoying some time in her Bumbo as she gets stronger every day.

Keira is quite the character.  I feel like every age has been my favorite as she grows and learns and discovers new things, but seriously this is my most favorite age yet.  She absolutely loves her little sister and likes to hold her, and huge her, and kiss her.  My favorite is when she has a conversation with Leila and gets so giddy with excitement when Leila smiles at her when she's talking.  I also love when she tries teaching Leila things like colors, letters or whatever it is she has in her hand at that moment.  Keira was playing in her kitchen and brought a bowl over and had to tell Leila what it was.  "Leila, bowl!"  Leila was extremely intrigued by that bowl.  She's also so funny and she'll tell you.  "Keira funny!"  I thought it was pretty funny/cute when she found a velvet like case that has a pen in it and for some reason decided it was a brush.  So she went to Koa and brushed him with it and then went to Roxy and brushed her with it.  She then went on to tell me, "Roxy pretty." "Koa pretty." "Keira pretty." I definitely had to agree with that.  So far girl definitely has some self-confidence.  I'm sure it helps that we are always telling her how super cute or pretty she is.  I mean, can you blame us?  She is freaking adorable!  She is especially adorable when she is singing the songs she learns at school.  Sometimes she wants to sing them by herself for us and other times she wants us to join in.  She will definitely let us know what mood she's in at that time. 

Keira has gotten a bit bossy as well so we are trying to make sure she is at least bossy in a polite way by adding please to her demands.  We will usually say "how do you ask?" And then she adds in please.  Here are some of her latest demands and sayings:

• "Mommy do it" - when she's not feeling like doing something she tells us to do it.  Most times I tell her to do it herself but to ultimately avoid a tantrum sometimes I give in.  Gotta do what you gotta do.
• "Mommy get it"
• "Mommy move"
• "No way" is my favorite because instead of just 'no' she has to say "no way."
• To dogs: "Move," "sit down," "come here" - they don't generally listen but she'll get there
• "Daddy, over there" while pointing - when he joined her for breakfast at her table she told him to basically go to his table (the main kitchen table) as that was mommy's chair.  That's right, girl! You tell him.  Of course that meant I then had to join her at the small table
• "Help" or "Helper" - when she thinks you need help with something or just wants to come with you.  She is quite the helper too especially with Scott and the yard work. 
• "No Keira do it" - she is quite the independent lady and wants to do things on her own. When she realizes she can't do certain things she then asks for "help."

It amazes me how much she is growing on a daily basis.  She's really not our little baby girl anymore.  *tear*  One big example is that she has used the potty several times.  She has been talking about pee and poop for about 6 months and has to always check her stuffed animals to see if they've pooped but she's been more interested in the actual toilet as well.  We aren't actively potty training her but if she tells us she has to go and she wants to use the potty we don't discourage it.  We don't think she's fully ready yet, but definitely soon.  And the nice thing is that it seems like she will be pretty easy to potty train.  She knows when she has to go and tells us.  This past weekend she went on the toilet multiple times each day.  She gets so excited when she hears the pee come out.  She's also a bit of a voyeur as you are not able to go to the bathroom without her "helping" you and sitting on her stool or getting in the shower while you pee.  It's a pretty good time with her in there and then Koa standing in the doorway staring as well.  Nothing like a captive audience.

Roxy & Koa are still the best big brother and sister ever.  They antagonize Keira and get up in her business all the time, which is their job, and they love to play with her.  They are also extremely attentive to Leila in case she spits up and we need their assistance cleaning up.  Dogs definitely come in handy for cleaning up messes whether they are spit up, food on the floor, etc.  They love their 'babies.'

So I'm sure you're over this novel.  I will be back again next month to update you on the craziness that is our lives in March!  Part of this craziness will include our little lady turning 2!!!

Okay, this is seriously one of the best recipes I've tried recently.  Though I did this a few months ago of course since I have been MIA in posting it's a bit late.  Scott's cousin, Megan, has her own blog called Nutmeg and she posts these amazing recipes with awesome pictures so you can actually see how it's supposed to look step by step (which I definitely need).  I commented on her post about how she needed to send some our way since she indicated the cinnamon chips needed could sometimes be elusive, so she was so sweet and actually printed out the recipe for me and sent me some cinnamon chips!  I was so excited that I got everything needed and made them the next day.  They are seriously delicious and I can't wait to make them again soon.  I found the cinnamon chips at one of our local grocery stores!!!  If you check out the Cinnamon Chip Scones recipe make sure you check out some of her other recipes as well.  SOOO good!

It's been awhile...

Wow! It has been quite some time since I last updated you.  It has been so busy with work and juggling things at home and of course all the birthday parties, family outings, holidays, etc, that have been happening the last couple months.  It would take me forever to update you on every single thing and you can check more photos out on Facebook, so I'll just add a few photos and highlights.

We still have yet to hit 20 pounds and this girl is active and running all over the place, but we'll get there one day.

Easter 

This little lady was very excited for Easter this year.  We had an Easter Egg Hunt at our community center a couple weeks before Easter and then we had a fabulous brunch with Scott's family and my mom on Easter Sunday.

Other Misc Fun

We love swimming and running around on the pool deck as well as eating corn on the cob when we can.  Keira loves food though you wouldn't know it by her size.  She would seriously eat 24/7 if we let her.
